And the story begins...

We purchased the home from the estate of Brenda Stubel.

The home was built by developers Gump & Gaynier Construction as the model home for the Midway Hills neighborhood. The architect was Thomas Scott Dean, AIA.  It's first homeowners were John H. and Constance R. Blain who purchased the house on September 2, 1955. They sold the home to B.E. and Marjorie J. Wilkerson on August 2, 1957. The Dallas Federal Savings & Loan Association bought the home on December 22, 1966. It was then sold to Martin Duke and Katherine Gentry on June 3, 1967. Brenda bought the house on December 30, 1970 and lived there until her death on September 26, 2017.
While our original intention was to do a restoration of the home, unfortunately when we got into the house, we discovered that there were foundation and other issues that resulted in us having to make the difficult decision to do a renovation instead of a restoration.  We kept original fixtures and finishes we think we can reuse. And we (including the our incredible architect, Manolo Banda), took tons of pictures so that we can be true to the  home’s original character in the renovation, replicating its many architectural details. We spent six months + working with Manolo to design the house, wanting to stay as true to the original plan as possible.

For the pieces we couldn’t use, we helped a few people who are doing restorations, and we made a great donation to Habitat for Humanity.  That said, the orange shag carpet from the 70s and the carpet in the master bath definitely had to go!

We have confidence that the choices we are making for the renovation, and the original details we are including, while some will be new, will represent the original character of the home, and make Thomas Scott Dean proud.

We have no doubt that once finished the house will be a structurally sound and healthy environment for another 60+ years.
